This morning we visited Hun Neang Toul Tom Poung II primary school, right behind the CWF building, for their International Children’s Day ceremony. The whole school gathered in the playground to hear speeches from school and community leaders. The director of the school and local commune head both spoke of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the importance of these rights, especially regarding child labour, the right to education, and the wellbeing of disadvantaged children.
Operations Manager Sambo and Group 23 volunteer Bailey then helped distribute packs of writing books, pens, pencils and noodles to disadvantaged students at the school. CWF contributed funds to prepare the packages, and we have previously donated funds to build a hand-washing station, and playground at the school
We’d like to thank the staff at Hun Neang Toul Tom Poung II primary school for their hospitality, and allowing us to join their International Children’s Day ceremony.
International Children’s Day is normally marked on June 1 here in Cambodia, but owing to upcoming commune elections, many of the events marking the day have been brought forward.
