CWF Kratie opens for its first semester!

Kratie is open!

A few weeks ago we announced that we were at last opening a new school, in the rural town of Kratie – a small rural town known for its river sunsets, Irrawaddy dolphins and CRDT headquarters. On Sept 14 we opened the doors to 80 students taught by 2 volunteer English teachers for the pilot semester of CWF Kratie!

Its a modest beginning, a cautious soft opening as we identify and solve issues as they arise. Our brave teachers, Kylie, Nikki, and Susan, are backed up by Jonny assisting as an academic advisor, and Seanglay overseeing as operations manager. A team of local staff is on hand, and the community of CRDT and other partners have been very supportive.

English Students from CWF Kratie

Teaching in Kratie offers a very different experience to Phnom Penh. Teachers live in a beautiful and spacious house – varnished wood from floor to ceiling – with 3 bedrooms, a kitchen and two bathrooms. The house is just a stones throw from the mighty Mekong River, and around the corner from the CRDT sponsored guesthouse and restaurant Le Tonlé, as well as CRDTours, and the CRDT main office.

“The river front is impressive at every time of day but the sunsets in particular are stunning”

Lessons are taught at the local university – a 15 minute cycle from the house. University staff have been very accommodation in providing CWF Kratie with a staff room and reception space, classrooms, Kratie has its own academic adviser to help you improve your skills & adapt to the specific needs of the students here.

Kratie Mekong River Sunset

The town of Kratie is tiny but beautiful – the river front is impressive at every time of day but the sunsets in particular are stunning, and a 10 minute boat ride will take you to the tropical island of Koh Trung where you can cycle around the jungle scenery. We have a big market, a shop that sells western food, some restaurants, a swimming pool and places to sit and sip a cool drink.

If you choose to teach in Kratie, you’ll be instantly part of a community of CRDT employees – the staff at Le Tonlé and CRDT Tours are extremely welcoming. You’ll have every opportunity to travel around the area and experience local life , and the community spirit is very important with a much smaller group of volunteers than in Phnom Penh.

CWF Kratie will be up and running in earnest for the semester beginning December 2nd 2015. If you’re interested in this fantastic opportunity to experience rural Cambodia, get in touch to reserve a spot for December!
